In Loving Memory of Dolores Rose Chambers
Dolores Rose Chambers (née McDonald), age 71, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
Born on April 22, 1955, at the U.S. Naval Hospital in San Diego, California, Dolores was the beloved daughter of Dolores Rose Fields and Thomas Edmond McDonald Jr., who proudly served in the United States Marine Corps.
Life was not always easy for our mom. After her divorce, she became a single mother and devoted herself to raising her two sons, Robert John Chambers and Stephen Christopher Chambers. She worked tirelessly to provide for her family, often putting her own needs aside so that her children would have what they needed. She faced many hardships throughout her life, but she met them with determination, strength, and a heart that never stopped caring for others.
Dolores spent her career as a waitress, a profession she truly loved because it gave her the opportunity to meet people and brighten their day. She worked at Kellis Bar & Restaurant, Sherry’s Restaurant, and spent the final 30 years of her career at Spring Garden Restaurant. For three decades, she became part of the neighborhood’s daily life. To many, she wasn’t simply a waitress—she was a familiar face, a trusted friend, and someone whose kindness made people feel welcome.
Our mom was incredibly intelligent and had a lifelong love of reading. She especially enjoyed Stephen King novels and could often be found immersed in a good book. She loved movies, music, drawing, and coloring. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved telling jokes, making people laugh, and spending time with family and friends.
One of Dolores’s greatest gifts was her generous heart. Even when she had very little, she never hesitated to help someone in need. Whether it was a neighbor, a customer, a friend, or a family member, she always tried to make life a little easier for someone else. Her kindness was never measured by what she had, but by what she was willing to give.
Her compassion extended to animals as well. She adored cats and cared for countless neighborhood cats throughout her life, making sure they were fed, safe, and loved.
Nothing brought Dolores greater joy than her family. She is survived by her loving sons, Robert John Chambers and Stephen Christopher Chambers; her cherished grandchildren, Felicia Chambers Navarrete, Emma Chambers, and Ava Chambers; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Cristiano Navarrete and Emmanuel Navarrete. She is also survived by her sister, Maureen Hogland, and many loving nieces and nephews, including Jennifer Hogland and Nick Hogland, who shared a very special bond with her and held a close place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Colleen McDonald, and by her parents, Dolores Rose Fields and Thomas Edmond McDonald Jr.
To her grandchildren, she will always be remembered as the grandmother who always had candy waiting for them, who made them laugh, and who loved them with all her heart.
Our mother taught us lessons that cannot be measured by wealth or possessions. She taught us the value of hard work, compassion, resilience, generosity, and always helping those who need it most. Although her life was often difficult, she never stopped loving, never stopped giving, and never stopped fighting for her family.
She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, perseverance, laughter, and unconditional love that will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, November 23, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at Guckin Funeral Mansion – 3330 G Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19134.
A mother’s love never truly leaves us. It lives on in the values she instilled, the memories she created, and the lives she forever changed. Though our hearts are broken, we are grateful that she was ours.
Mom, thank you for every sacrifice you made, every lesson you taught us, every laugh you shared, and every act of love you gave. We will carry you in our hearts forever. We love you, and we will never forget you. Rest peacefully until we meet again.
