Josué Antonio Castillo – Passed away August 22, 2024

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Josue Antonio Castillo, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished son, brother, uncle, and dear friend to many. His gentle spirit, unwavering love, and selfless kindness touched the lives of all who knew him. Josue Antonio Castillo, born during the summer of 1967 in Higüey, Dominican Republic, was a man whose life was defined by love, laughter, and an unyielding dedication to his family and friends. The second of four children born to Emilia Perez and Quilino Bienvenido Castillo, Josue spent his early years in Higüey, creating mischief and memories with his best friends and siblings, Dorka Castillo, Damaris Castillo, and David Castillo. His sharp wit and playful nature became legendary within the family, and his sisters and brother recall fondly the many stories of his troublemaking and quick humor.

Josue’s love for learning was evident from a young age. His school years were marked by excellent grades and a passion for education that would continue throughout his life. This passion led him to the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, where he pursued a degree in Human Services. It was there that he met the love of his life, Gerzie Prisca de Leon Padilla. Their connection began as a friendship, with Josue tutoring Prisca to help her graduate with him. Their bond grew stronger, and after a year and a half, their friendship blossomed into a romantic relationship. In 1996, they both graduated with their bachelor’s degrees, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their lives together.

On a memorable day in Santo Domingo, Josue asked for Prisca’s hand in marriage, and the very next day, they were married in a private ceremony witnessed by loved ones. Their love story continued to flourish, and within three years, their family was complete with the birth of their son, Josue David Castillo, and their daughter, Jaisha Marielle Castillo.

In pursuit of a better life for his family, Josue moved to Philadelphia, PA in 2000. He worked tirelessly, initially at a paper company and then a mattress factory, before finding his lifelong career at Southwest Airlines at the Philadelphia International Airport. His work ethic and dedication to his family were unwavering, and he took immense pride in providing for them.

Outside of work, Josue was a man of many passions. He found peace and joy in gardening, traveling, and reading. His love for plants was evident in the vibrant garden he cultivated, and his adventurous spirit took him and his family on countless trips, particularly to the Dominican Republic, where he remained deeply connected to his roots. Josue’s generosity knew no bounds—whether it was gifting free flights to friends or giving generous tips to street performers, his kindness and love touched everyone he met. In the end, he traveled to 66 countries, instilling in his children a passion for travel and an appreciation for all the world has to offer.

Josue is survived by his beloved mother, Emilia, his devoted wife of 25 years, Prisca, his son Josue (Victoria) Castillo, his daughter Jaisha (Peyton) Morrison, and his cherished granddaughter, Dahlia Marie Morrison. He also leaves behind his three siblings, as well as his two nieces, Marielys Castillo and Wanda Castillo.

Josue Antonio Castillo’s life was a testament to the power of love, family, and kindness. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
