James Joseph Gallagher

James Joseph Gallagher, 83, of Philadelphia, Pa, passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2022.

James was born on January 7, 1939 in Philadelphia, to Frank and Anna Gallagher; he was the 17th of 18 children. He graduated from Bishop Neuman Highschool in 1957 and went on to serve in the US Army from 1962 to 1964. He was a member of the 3rd US Infantry regiment in Washington DC, which is also known as the ‘The Old Guard”, the US Army’s official escort to the president of the United States

James, known by most people as Jim, was full of knowledge and always up for trivia or a board game. He enjoyed films, either at the theater or watching at home with family. You could often find him enjoying a bowl of ice cream or sipping a glass of scotch on the rocks.

A loving father and husband, he was preceded in death by his wife Elaine, daughter Janina (Jane), and many siblings. He is survived by his sister Patricia, sister-in-law Agnes, son James Jr, daughter-in-law Jacqueline as well as his grandchildren.

There will be an internment on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at 10AM, at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown PA.
